obsessions
new fandoms
it's been a while since i've like flung myself full tilt into new(ish) fandoms and series and things. i think being disillusioned with halo for like the first actual time in my life finally turned me away from it once the re-remake of CE was announced. and some ... really rough drama i had to deal with
in the halo roleplay fandom too. it felt kinda freeing to finally be out of that shithole. and now i've been able to delve into new things. never would've thought i'd get into warhammer of all things, after vehemently detesting many of the warhammer roleplayers i also encountered over the years. you'd have never thought a few years ago
that i'd be buying some minis and making a legion of my own. funny how shit works.
got back into probably one of my oldest fandoms too, which i've kinda noted on the home page for a while now, which is warrior cats, and i've been back into gears of war and overwatch again too. it's not quite the same as when i was playing marvel rivals but i couldn't
find anyone to team up with for rivals, where as one of my friends has thrown herself straight into overwatch and i can play with her.
and now i'm digging into neverness to everness, a chinese gacha game. tried genshin in the past but it felt like such a ... hurdle to try and get into it because it's been around for so long, there's a shitload of content that makes it feel a lot more daunting.

new skill!!
SOLDERING?
the cyberdeck trend caught my tiktok feed and i've been inexplicably obsessed with them now for weeks.
i started putting one together slowly. some parts i already had available; the main brain, the raspberry pi 4B, that was easy. my husband had made a pi-hole out of it a few years back but maintaining it for him was getting to be a bit of a chore and it had been sitting around in my desk drawer for a while. so i commandeered it. found a case for it straightaway, the lightbulb moment was abrupt, a caboodle makeup/miscellaneous crap holder felt like a no brainer. its got plenty of space, can easily be brought around with you. got a screen off amazon, two arduino kits for miscellaneous parts, and now it serves as a central hub for learning python and building random tech devices. just finished my first little doohickey, a little Pico 2W device. its technically useless, but it exists, its a little friend now.

holy crap this was a great game
it's been a while since i've played a single player campaign that felt as polished as this one. the story was pretty straightforward and accessible for someone who's only been starting to get into the 40k fandom and that's a great thing! it's a great way to get into just what the hell 40k is, because it gives just enough context, for the tyranids, for the heretic factions, but leaves enough out to leave you wanting to dig into the details, to find out just what the hell is going on in a deeper level.

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls: Grady Hendrix

downloaded this book sort of on a whim, i liked the old school style cover it had, with the lava lamp especially. there was something nostalic about it, and the secondary cover it has had weird stranger things type vibes to it as well.

this one-off novel takes place in a maternity home in florida in the 1970s, one specifically for unwed teenage mothers.
it starts off with a girl named neva in the car with her father, on the way to this maternity home. she's left at the maternity home after her father doesn't even bother to say goodbye to her, and she has to navigate the situation, and the other girls on her own.

the book was frankly fantastic. it felt realistic outside of the later horror elements that are brought in, and all the girls felt... real? they were different, they felt like they'd had their own lives before they came into this place, and i loved that.
and by the end of the book, i'd fully forgotten that this book was written by a male author.
i really do recommend it.
